Whenever you go into any niche market, your goal should be to dominate and “own” that specific market. Otherwise, you are probably wasting your time, energy and money. If you want to conquer your competition, there are five key focus areas that will make you stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Do competitive analysis.

Before you begin any project, take some time to determine what others are doing and how you can do it better. If you study your competition, you will be able to determine their weak spots so you can convert their weaknesses into your strengths. Go to trade shows, subscribe to the newsletters, get on their mailing lists and buy their products. Do a Google search to see how they compare to other marketers in the same niche market. Join niche-related forums and see what their customers are saying about their products. Furthermore, going to seminars and conferences and spending some time talking to your competition is a good idea. A lot of ideas are exchanged after hours during dinner or at the bar. Embrace your competition, and you will learn a lot.

Go after what people are interested in buying.

It might be tempting to invent the next big thing, but the truth is that most of the money made in Internet marketing is about repackaging and recycling the same ideas. The key is to do it a little differently than your competitors, or find a way to deliver that product or service better. Pay close attention to trends and take advantage of the potential cash windfall of these opportunities.

Go in for the long term.

If you plan to dominate any market, you need to develop both, long-term and short-term goals. For instance, you can publish one press release a day, submit an article to article directories once a week or update your blog every two or three days. Within two or three months of hitting your income goals, you can determine whether you need to scale up or down in your niche marketing efforts.

Determine your budget.

While you can promote your business on a shoestring budget, the numbers don’t lie. The more you can afford to spend, the higher your chances of success in any niche market. Once you start turning a profit, reinvest that money back into your marketing campaign. Most importantly, do not get too comfortable. Being comfortable is the worst thing you can do as a marketer. You can be on top one day and drop to the bottom the next if you don’t keep on top of promoting your business.

Stay focused.

Do not allow yourself to get pulled into so many directions that you take your eye off the target. Outsource as much work as possible so you can concentrate on the day-to-day operations of your business.

Dominating your niche market is dependent on staying focused and creating a budget for promoting your business. As long as you know what your target market is buying and don’t stray away from their desires, you can potentially dominate any market you choose.

Visiting forums and Google Groups is a simple and good way to become successful in affiliate marketing. These places are where your prospects hang out. Create a user ID at a couple of forums and/or join a relevant Google group. Don’t try and sell your products to anyone at first – just hang out and listen.

Forums and egroups are great ways to know what the people in your niche think and feel about new news and products in your niche. It is also a great way to find out what needs are not being met for them. You can help your niche and yourself by finding (or creating…) a product that solves a problem that is not being solved, or meeting some other need that is not being met.

You can also see what they think of news in your niche, and what products it might suggest, and what they think of currently available products. If they are particularly skeptical or resentful of current efforts to market to them, take note and avoid other marketers’ mistakes when you make your own efforts which in return will help your affiliate marketing success tremendously.

Make use of social bookmarking sites. Most affiliate marketers know how useful social bookmarking sites can be for driving traffic to their pages. However, these sites can also help you stay current with your niche.

If you have not joined one of these sites already, go ahead and join one. Stumbleupon and Digg are two of the most popular, but they are far from the only ones. A little research will let you know which site might be best for your particular niche. Find others with your interests and add them to your list. Join any special interest groups that may be available.

When you join a social bookmarking site, you open yourself up to news you may not have otherwise stumbled across. In addition, most of these sites let users add comments to the bookmarks, letting you see what your niche thinks about current news, products, etc.

Sign up for news feeds in your niche. If you can find a news feed specifically related to your niche, then great. Even if you can’t, most major news services, like CNN, ABC News, BBC, USA Today, have news feeds you can skim every day to see if there is anything related to your niche, hence relevant to your affiliate marketing campaigns.

Even news not specifically related to your niche may be related to its broader parent-market. There are several advantages to keeping up with this.

First, a lot of marketers in your field probably are not keeping up with news feeds. By noticing things in the news, you can get a jump on up-and-coming trends in your specialty.

Another way to use related news feeds is to social bookmark them. This has a number of benefits. First, it helps your standing in your social bookmarking community. You become someone who provides value and is up on the latest news and trends. This can get you both respect, and a wider readership.

Secondly, you can view other users’ comments to the news items you have bookmarked, and once again get feedback from your niche prospects.

These simple tips won’t take much time out of your day, but they can really help you leverage your affiliate marketing efforts if you make use of them consistently.

Once you have conducted your research and have formulated your competitive intelligence, you are ready to take the first step forward to a successful niche marketing. Dominating your niche market is a process, and the worst thing you can do is get “comfortable” with your marketing. It must be consistent to be effective.

There are seven important steps in the process of dominating your niche and your marketing efforts. Follow these steps, and you will increase your chances of prospering. Ignore or skip a step, and it could affect your total niche marketing plan.

1. Create your celebrity.

Reputation means everything in Internet marketing. Establish yourself as an authority, offer free advice and brand your name. Take advantage of Web 2.0 to create brand recognition. Blog, post videos to YouTube and do interviews to enhance your reputation. Web 2.0 is your key to creating visibility.

2. Build a community with your target market.

Blog, create a forum or use a social network like MySpace or Facebook to reach out to your niche market. Use these avenues to increase your visibility and to connect with individual customers. Give back freely and keep your customers informed about upcoming products or services.

3. Focus on increasing the perceived value of your product.

Improve your existing product or add bonus features that make your product appear more attractive. Ironically, increasing the price of your product can often result in more sales. People assume that expensive products are more valuable than cheaper alternatives.

4. Create loyalty incentives.

It is cheaper to keep an existing customer than it is to gain a new one, so develop incentive programs that keep customers coming back for more. You can offer discounted prices for repeat customers or give rewards for customers who refer other buyers to your program.

5. Perform continual competitive analysis.

Competitive analysis must be an ongoing process. Don’t abandon it after you start getting a little success. Study your competition. Know what part of your niche marketing is working. Keep on top of what your competitors are doing so you can modify your marketing strategy as needed.

6. Profit with product launches.

You will want to build anticipation for your product or service by blogging about it, announcing it in niche-related forums and keeping your social network informed about it. Get prospects excited about what is to come and offer buyers a reduced price for a limited time. Scarcity is an effective motivator in buyer behavior.

7. Capitalize on joint ventures.

Form partnerships with your competitors – particularly the ones at the top of your target market – to add steam to your marketing campaign. By combining brand recognition, you will increase your customer base and reach out to prospects who may never have considered buying your product before. Combine your strengths and resources, and you can increase brand recognition and take your business to the next level.

If you want to dominate your niche, niche marketing is a combination of competitive analysis, focus and a winning strategy. You will need a multi-step approach to make it to the top. Once you have discovered how to get to the top of your niche market, you can build upon the same strategies to stay there.

So you have got some old content that you never used and half a dozen PLR packages that you never even opened, just laying around taking up space on your hard drive. Maybe you are frustrated you bought the content and never used it, or feeling silly that you even bought that 27-niche super-discount pack of PLR articles. Well, it’s time to increase traffic to your blog by turning this random content into targeted content.

And it’s time to quit feeling bad. Because you can put this content to work and turn it into targeted content – and you don’t even have to buy hosting or a domain name!

How?

First, go to the Google external keyword tool. Google it if you don’t have it bookmarked already. Under “How would you like to generate keyword ideas?” click “Website Content”.

If you do not have your content up on a website just yet, don’t fret. Just click the sentence that says “Or, enter your own text in the box below.” Then, copy and paste your text.

Now, just click the “Get Keyword Ideas” button. Instant keyword research!

(After you see your results, you might want to go back and click the “filter my results” text. It’s very possible you will get some results that you don’t have any use for. Even with the filter, some of your results might not be worth much. However, it’s likely that some will.)

Now you are ready to post your content – on someone else’s site!

The sites I am talking about are Web 2.0 sites. So technically, they are your sites – yours and everybody else’s! The sites themselves may be communal, the pages you make will be yours.

Do a little bit of research on what kinds of products are selling with those keywords. This isn’t too hard. Just take the keywords that had any search volume at all and search for them in Google. The keywords that bring up Adwords ads on the right side of the page are the ones you want. Find out what products those people are selling.

Make a Squidoo page, a Hubpages page, whatever you want. Remake your title to target whatever keyword goes with the best money-maker. This doesn’t have to be a product – you can make a lot of money doing leads as well. Now, tag your page with the term AND with the more valuable related keywords that Google showed you. Now ping your tag pages.

If you want, you can also Stumble or Digg your new page, submit it to directories, point other lenses or Web 2.0 pages at it – or just tag, ping and leave it there. More effort will always give you better results. However, even if you don’t feel like putting much effort into it, you have still put some pages up that have your money-making links on them. And your targeted content will increase traffic to your blog and do more for you on these pages than it will just by sitting on your hard drive!

If you want to use Web 2.0 properties to make money online, you need to get people off of them and onto your sales, affiliate sales or squeeze pages ASAP. Here are three keys to making it work.

Make it ugly? You are not making your Web 2.0 pages in order to impress anybody or win any awards. You are using them to make money! It follows that all of your effort, then, needs to go into making that money – and that none of it needs to go into the aesthetic experience!

Don’t use any of the bells and whistles provided by your Web 2.0 site, unless those bells and whistles can make you some money. If you use video, make sure it not only relates to your niche, but your product as well. And make sure it relates to people wanting to buy that product, which is paramount.

If you use images, you will mostly need only product images. This can be a “portrait” of the product or of someone using the product. There is no need for cute animated GIFs or anything “cute”.

Don’t entertain them. You don’t want to entertain your readers with content, either. When you are targeting a buying key phrase, keep all information focused on that product or the problems it solves. If you are building a list, make the content about the benefits of your list and/or the solutions it offers.

You don’t need jokes or funny stories. You don’t need to convince your readers why the solutions offered by your product or list are something they need. Target only people who already want those solutions. If you do any convincing at all, it should be that your list will offer a quality solution.

(You shouldn’t have to do this with products, if you’re targeting buying key phrases. People who look up “buying keywords” – specific brands, makes, models, colors, etc. – already know what they want.)

Give them one option. Focusing your page on a single action and providing your readers with a single option is of utmost importance when monetizing Web 2.0 pages.

Most Web 2.0 sites already provide a link or two to click off the pages with their on-site monetization. You shouldn’t give your readers any other choices than possible! Provide them with the choice that is most profitable to you and only that choice.

This should be easy if you have targeted the buying key phrase. After all, it’s what they were looking to buy in the first place, so why shouldn’t they go ahead and click to somewhere they can buy it?

By all means, they should – so don’t try and show them something else they can do. After all, the internet seems to have attention deficit built in to it. Don’t make it worse by providing multiple choices for your readers. Stick with the choice – and only with the choice – that will satisfy reader needs and earn you a commission in the process.

So you finally got your niche site up. You put up ten, maybe fifteen or twenty pages of content about your niche and put some damn good affiliate links on those pages. You have sent out some articles to get good organic backlinks, traded a few links here and there.

Maybe you discreetly bought some links to your site to give it that extra push to get that consistent website traffic. Then you made a couple of blog posts on a good site like Blogger, linked back to your site, and pinged it. You moved on to another site and waited for a while so that your first site could get out of the sandbox.

Finally, after a while, it made it! Your site has a little bit of age on it, and Google shows a bit of love. A few people see your site and maybe decide to link to it — you have probably even been socially bookmarked. The site is starting to rank well with Google, and you are making a few affiliate sales, maybe even a lot. You couldn’t be happier!

But soon, your consistent website traffic, and your sales start to drop off. What happened?

You didn’t update. You stopped adding content. You stopped blogging and bookmarking. If you were buying links, maybe you didn’t keep on with it, or maybe you didn’t keep adding them. And Google noticed.

You see, Google has a certain kind of attitude towards your website. If you’re not giving the site any attention, then why should everybody’s favorite (or at least most used…) search engine treats it any different?

You’ve got to be consistent to maintain consistent website traffic. You have got to show your site some love!

When you don’t, Google assumes that nobody cares about your site. It assumes your site maybe is not so relevant. And so it doesn’t want to rank that site anymore.

Google these days is all about recency. It is hard to establish any kind of authority anymore if you don’t have lots of activity. Even just getting links is not enough — you have got to maintain your site. You have got to update your pages, you have got to add new pages, and you have got to have links coming in on a fairly frequent basis.

How often you update your content will determine how often Google sends spiders to your site. Take a lesson from Web 2.0 social media sites. Many of those sites pretty much have Google camping out on their front doorsteps, just waiting for the chance to index them. In fact, many of these sites get indexed several times every day!

Why?

Updated content. Pure and simple. Google loves recency almost as much as it loves authority these days. It goes to sites that are active, because that indicates that users love those sites! And it is Google’s job to give people what they want.

So update your site. Give it new content regularly. If you are buying links, do that on a consistent basis — albeit discretely. Give your website some consistent attention, and Google will too, resulting in consistent website traffic for you.

Many people have discovered that blogs have become the newest way to earn an income. There are quite a few misconceptions about blogging for profit that cause more than half of the people who start blogging for this reason to fail. Most of the information that people find has to do with hyped up sales pitches that boast instant or overnight riches. Because of the state of the economy, there are thousands of people every day that are trying to find out how they can earn an income using their computer and Internet connection. While blogging for profit is a reachable means of reaching this desire, you should know that there are a few mistakes that you can prevent that will help you work towards completing your goals successfully.

Unrealistic Expectations

One of the most common issues that people run across when getting involved in blogging for profit is the unrealistic expectations that they may have. You may think that this is going to be an easy task for you. You may also think that you will earn a ton of money in a short period of time. Neither of this is true. Sure, there are a select few that manage to become successful almost overnight, but the truth is that this is highly unlikely to happen for the majority of the people who do this. Part of running a blog, just like running a website, is the time and effort that you will need to put into the whole thing.

You are going to need to invest at least a few hours a day in your blog. You are also going to have to keep up with it, which means that you can’t simply create a blog and then leave it. Nothing will come from this other than a blog that was basically created for no other reason than to sit there and take up server space. A lot of misconceptions have occurred where new Internet marketers set up the simplest thing, a website, and then expect to sit around while this makes them money. Any Internet marketing campaign, for starters, should include a blog. Blogging, not just blogging for profit, requires regular posting in order to ensure that it gets picked up by search engines. When you use blogging as a promotional/informational aid, you need to make sure that you are allotting proper time to regularly post.

From Start to Infinity

Blogging for profit in Internet marketing is only part of a cycle. You must first do extensive research on product or services within niche groups that you are interested in. Don’t just start off thinking any area and product will do. You must have a genuine interest in the area to ensure that you don’t get bored or burnt out. Your research should include the popularity of the type of product, as well as how many other Internet marketers are using the same niche in their ways of Internet marketing. Ideally, your choice should be popular and readily demanded by consumers, but it should not have thousands of companies and other Internet marketers pushing many versions.

When you have a business related blog, it is important to make it as successful as you can to ensure the greatest exposure. There are four fundamental aspects of a blog that will help with this effort. Learning how to blog successfully using the ideals and tips that correspond with these fundamentals. In learning how to blog, these four aspects will govern how popular your blog is through your identity, the direction that your blog follows, and how sought-after your blog is and will be in the future.

The first step in learning how to blog successfully and dominate your particular niche is mastering to give your blog a set identity. What this means is that you need to have a unique blog site that will set yours apart from the thousands of other blogs within your particular niche. If, for example, your niche is centered around home or kitchen products your primary niche group is women, you should give your blog the personality for this group. In addition, how to blog successfully using the identity aspect also means that you need to incorporate your own special aspects of who you are to the blog. You can accomplish this through themes, colors and layouts.

How to blog successfully also involves the second aspect of blogging: creating a theme for your blog. Consistency is an important thing here. Your blog posts and other things that you add to the blog should always remain consistent with your overall theme. If the product theme of your blog is centered around something like computer programs, you should make sure that everything that has to do with your blog and everything that you add stays along this theme. How to blog successfully relies on you making sure that you don’t add posts for things that are not related to this theme.

Your third fundamental aspect is posting. There are many bloggers that will just post once a week or once every other week. There are also bloggers that will only post to their blogs once a month. Unfortunately, in all three of these cases this is not the proper way; it will not lead to popular blogs. How to blog successfully will require that you post at least once a day, even if it is a small post, like an update or short article on something related to your theme. In addition, to be successful means that you will need to reply to your comments. The whole purpose to regular posting is so that your readers will keep coming back to see what you have recently posted, but also it brings in new visitors and raises your rankings with search engines.

The final fundamental aspect of learning how to blog and be successful at it is to, as stated earlier, respond to your comments. You should make sure that you have enabled comments from your readers on your blog page. If you want to be well-known, you should also make your commenting available to people who do not want to sign up for accounts or RSS feeds. In the same aspect, however, a popular blog will provide readers for a means to stay updated. Basically, many blog hosting sites will provide you with the tools that you need, like the RSS feed subscription tools, as well as things like Twitter and Facebook account updates.

Finding the right niche seems like a daunting task for many newcomers. There are so many different markets in Internet marketing that it is easy to see why there is such a huge turnaround. The problem is that a lot of beginners don’t know what to look for and wind up picking a niche that they cannot possibly be successful with. Just because a niche exists doesn’t mean that each marketer is ideal for working with it. When you are trying to find the right niche, there are a few tips that you can keep in mind.

First, you need to resort to the trusty pen and paper. Start making a list of areas that interest you. Let’s say that you have a particular fondness for self-help products. Start with the self-help topic and then pick individual aspects of self-help, like meditation and brain wave therapy. These are niches within a larger topic area. The idea is to get as specific as you can. From there, you can go even further into the specific things that can be used in those small niche groups, like meditation e-books or brain wave therapy CDs. Get as small down the line as you can.

Your next tip in finding the right niche is to pay attention to your potential competition. Think about the general concept of marketing in relation to supply and demand. Let’s say that there is a lot of demand created for a specific niche that you are interested in. That’s great, but how many other marketers are working to promote within that niche? While you may have some luck with going past them in your efforts, the likelihood is slim. This is because the niche is overworked. You need a niche that has a high demand but not too many other marketers involved in the promotion. The best way to find out this information is to do some quick keyword research using a research tool (Google serves the purpose here) and find out how popular the main topic keywords are for that particular niche. When the search rates are lower than 1000, you have found a really great target niche. You have a greater chance of creating a successful marketing campaign for that particular niche.

Your final tip is research, research, research. Once you have narrowed down your selection to one or two niche groups, you need to conduct some thorough research. You need to research the products or services that you think you might want to market to ensure that you are promoting something legitimate, but even more than that you need to gather information that you can share with your potential customers. When you know all there is to know about what you are trying to get people to buy, you convey yourself as an expert and people tend to put a little more faith in you over someone else. In the same manner, you should also research effective Internet marketing techniques. You may have some experience, but the Internet is always evolving and things can change overnight. For beginners, it is much easier to have an idea of what you are getting into before you actually dive in head first and wind up drowning up because you are lost.

Today, there are many blogs and websites about blogs on the Internet. As a result, it might be difficult to differentiate your website from the ones of your competitors. It doesn’t matter if you are beginning a new website for bloggers or if you want to make your existing one more special, finding your niche is always the most crucial part for building and running a site which will appeal to the blogging community. If you are able to present your niche in a completely different and matchless style in comparison to the other websites, you will start becoming an authority in your niche, hence you will begin building loyal and lasting followers within the web surfer’s community. Having determined your niche however, will mean a lot of work for you, but it has got you a place in the blogging world where you now can start.

Ideas and a good concept are what makes a successful blogging website, and without it, you wouldn’t survive. Look at the various great sites which try to attract bloggers nowadays; there is an aggressive competition out there. If you want to stay in the top position, your site has to deliver something that is not on offer on the other sites, or copy what a favorite site has done so far. But do it in a way which is outstanding, helpful or beneficial to your readers.

One method to find a perfect example for your blogging website is to look at the sites which have already a lot of traffic. Here you can see and decide if it will work for your idea as well. However, you definitely have to add your personal touch to it to remain different from the other sites. Nowadays, a unique character is what differentiates a popular site from the other ones. Today’s bloggers react remarkably strong to that attribute. As a result, think about how you can create that matchless and appealing feeling through your own design and content.

When you have identified a niche you are passionate about so that you are able to create relevant and good unique content, and your site is showing that matchless personality that lets it stand out, how to get recognized in the wide world of bloggers? How to create traffic? Just having a good idea doesn’t produce a flourishing blogging website. It also requires a clever and practical marketing plan to attract traffic to your site. Once a blogger likes and enjoys your site and gets hooked, the unique content will make him return. However, it is crucial to get that first brief look. Without it, your site would not have a chance for a successful future at all.
