All webmasters and site owners who have been trying to earn from their sites must be aware of a monster called Adsense.
Adsense has presented a new and easy opportunity to earn money from your site. Adsense virtually allows any person who has built a content site or a blog to earn money, just by placing some code on their web pages. Adsense has given the ability to the web masters to concentrate on their sites rather than wasting time on trying to figure out what advertisements to put on their sites.
There are many web masters who make living on Adsense, but there are also many web masters who spend lot of time on figuring out the magic trick to earn from Adsense. Making a good living from Adsense might seem difficult but it is definitely not impossible.
Just placing Adsense code on your site is not enough if you are looking at Adsense as your only source of income. You need to experiment a lot with Adsense formats, placement and choice of keywords.
Whatever topic your site deals with, you should take care to build page around a specific topic. This ensures that the Adsense ads placed on the page, are relevant and useful to the visitors wanting to know more on the topic, and these visitors will eventually end up clicking the Adsense ad.
You should take care when placing your Adsense ads. If you read through Google help on Adsense, you will find the heat maps suggesting the best locations for your adverts. It is a proven fact that, one place the visitors look first on the site is the top left position. Since this is the place that will have the visitor’s attention, it definitely helps to place your Adsense ads there.
You should also consider placing the Adsense ads on high traffic pages. You will be able to identify the most visited pages on your site by looking at the logs or even your Google Analytic account, which provides you page by page details of visitors.
Though the banner and skyscrapers adverts look pretty good on your site, you should try to avoid using those on your site. Such banners are usually ignored by the visitors. Do you recollect clicking on any banner on a site you visited recently?
You should also use the Adsense formats to make sure your Adsense ads blend with your web pages. Google provides you different palettes to try font colors, backgrounds and borders. There is no point in placing an ad on the page which does not blend with your site and will effectively not be clicked by any visitor.
Another important factor ignored by most of the webmasters is the Adsense preview tool. Google provides with an excellent tool to help you preview the ads that appear on your page. This tool allows you to see the sample ads and formats, preview colors on your page, check the destination of the ads and seo targeted locations to see what visitors in other countries will see.
Besides the above mentioned factors, it is also important to have a definite focus on what you want to achieve. No matter how busy you are, you should always spare some time to experiment with the Adsense ads to improve the CTR. Whatever experts say, just following the basics, is really the magic of making more from Adsense.

Try making your ads look like polls, or make it look like your going to win an……"iPod."
Every time someone clicks on your ad you earn money. And in the end, if you have a really good looking ad then people will click on it more often.

I just answered this question a minute ago. Someone asked if a course offered by Cash Cow would help him make more money with Adsense. Here's my reply. Just forget about cashCow and concentrate on what I'm saying about Adsense itself:
————————–
Crikey, I actually get quite exhausted answering this kind of question. Cash cow is one of hundreds of sites cashing in on the Adsense revolution. The bottom line is this and my advice is free! Adsense only works on web sites with massive traffic. I'm talking 1000 plus visitors a day. One in every 100-200 visitors may click an ad and the value to you will vary depending on how much the advertisers are willing to pay. This could be a few cents or less. Some ads don't pay at all! It's all about traffic, although Cash Cow and others will try to tell you it's all about key words as well as traffic. Before you waste any money, get your web site set up, put some ads on it and work on getting traffic. You won't do this through Google. They no longer rank new sites because too many people are trying to make money from Adsense. Google now wants content and that's what my sites offer. Despite this, none of my sites are ranked in the top 10,000. Getting traffic is not easy. You have to promote your site daily, build up a mailing list, encourage people to come back daily or weekly and hope they click ads. When you start getting visitors and when you start getting clicks, consider purchasing Cash Cow or any one of the thousand "How too" courses to improve your chances. Until then, hang on to your money.
Good luck.

Experiment with the factors below (except smartpricing, which you can't control), and see which combination works best.
1. Responsiveness of audience to the ads = A travel website that provides information on travel to Spain will attract visitors looking for ways to arrange their travel and spend money on their vacation to Spain. Your site provides the info, but the ads will provide hotels, travel agencies, tourist destinations, car rentals — ads that are likely to get the attention of the users of your site. This is a site that will most likely do well with Adsense. However, if you are a gaming website where the main purpose of the user is to play games on your site, then Adsense will not perform as well.
2. Ad format = some types of ads do better than others depending on your content and layout. In our case, large rectangles in the middle of the content is the best, while leaderboards do not generate as much as income. Skys are the worst for us. Experiment and measure the results via channels and see which formats work best for you.
3. Ad placement – check Google's heat map as they have tested where the best placements are https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=17954&ctx=en:search&query=adsense+heat+map&topic=0&type=f
4. Ad colors – sometimes ads blended into the content works wonders, but sometimes ads that contrast your site colors work best
5. Number of ad units on a page = we are allowed maximum of 3 ads + 1 ad links + 1 search box on a page. Maximize the allowed number based on the resulting look of your page (you don't want an overkill of ads). Users going to your page and reading your content may ignore the banner or rectangle at the top of the page, but may click on the ad at the bottom of the article
6. Smartpricing – the big unknown in Adsense. No one knows how this actually works. But it can affect the pricing of the ads on your site. If the advertiser paid for $0.50/click – but your site is smartpriced – then the cost may be discounted lower (e.g. $0.25). So you may try to develop a site based on high paying keywords but if smartpricing gets to you, then you may not get as much per click as what you are expecting from your keywords.
