To be truthful, you would not sell much through article marketing if you don’t use these techniques in each article you write. You need to achieve seven main goals to get people to click on your affiliate or website link. First people need to click on your link, then they need to buy from you. This article will outline each of the steps.

1. Attract Your Reader’s Attention.

There are two aspects to gaining attention of your potential customers. First the subject of your article needs to be so interesting that they can’t help but read further. Second, the headline and the first couple of sentences need to quickly and clearly communicate what your subject is.

2. Get Your Prospects To Read The Whole Article.

Once you have attracted interest you need to say something that they didn’t know before or in a way that they had never heard it before. This is called the “news value” of an article. There’s no need for anyone to read your article if you aren’t providing any real reason to continue reading.

3. Gain Your Prospect’s Respect By The Time They Finish Reading The Article.

Start off your article with something that your reader can agree with even if you intend to say something that they would consider totally wrong without having read your article. Go Gradually. Make one solid point at a time until your have reached your surprising conclusion. Don’t just blurt out a statement that people will disagree with. They will just stop reading. When you advance your case step by credible step your reader will respect you.

4. Make It So Your Reader Feels Like You Understand Them By The Time They Finish The Article.

If you expect to sell anything you first need to have a rapport with your prospect. Every salesman learns this as a first principle in his training but all the courses on article marketing ignore it completely. In his course on copy writing, Joe Vitale calls it “maintaining their trance”. Robert Collier calls it “staying in step with the conversation going on in their mind” in his Letter Book.

5. Make Your Article Worth Spending Time On.

Your prospect is spending his valuable time in reading your article. Make sure you reward him for his sacrifice. If you can provide a lot of value for the reader, they will pay you back by following your recommendation to click on the affiliate link.

6. Set Up Your Article So Your Reader Feels Positively About The Product You Will Ultimately Offer For Sale.

This is called pre-selling. It’s the basis of all successful article marketing. Selling is done in the sales letter. Your article isn’t the place to be selling, but you can provide information and insight that help people understand the value of the features of the product you will be selling.

7. Provide Motivation To Click On The Link In The Resource Box.

If you have done the previous six steps properly all you have to do here is to show them where they can get more information to solve their problem. You always have to ask people to take action. If you don’t specifically ask people to do something, most of the time, they will not click on your link.

Writing profitable articles is a matter of getting people to click on your link when they are pre-disposed to making a purchase. When your articles achieve all of the goals presented here it is more of a science than an art. Just follow the steps and you will be amazed at the results.
